Spring is in the air, and so are the spring colors.

Retail stores locally already have their spring lines on their floorsets.

"It's all about capris, from khaki capris, jean capris to drawstring capris," said Charlene Bustos, a merchandise manager for Old Navy. Bustos said pink is hot this spring in the women's department, and for men it is painter shorts and button-up plaid collars.

Raffkind's, which recently enlarged its Amarillo store, has "tons of it" when it comes to spring apparel. "We are seeing lots of color in shirts this year," said Erick Corbyn, Raffkind's buyer and sales manager. "Even in the neckwear, from teal green to orange to pink."

Gap, American Eagle, Buckle and Bealls all confirmed they had their spring lines on the floor but were unavailable to comment on their hottest styles.

A manager for American Eagle said this spring they are carrying a large line of sheer graphic T-shirts and thongs for those steamy spring afternoons.

Gap is featuring many pink and yellow colors for women in basic T-shirts. For men, Gap has a large inventory of cargo shorts and basic T-shirts, a manager said.

According to the Abercrombie & Fitch Web site, www.abercrombie.com, vintage wear is the main feature this spring, from basic T-shirts to vintage flip- flops.
Expessfashion.com said the must-haves this spring are "romantic floral prints and quirky stripes."

For the guys, Express said "washed and worn anytime looks that make a seriously casual statement."

The top five must-haves for women declared by Express are: 5) stretch woven dress, 4) pencil skirt, 3) ultra-knit tops, 2) paratrooper crop pants, and 1) femme camisoles. For the men, must-haves are: 5) salt-wash polo, 4) linen drawstring pants, 3) linen shirts, 2) flight pants and 1) embroidered shirts.

According to Marie Claire magazine, spring fashions offer something for everyone, from country club chic to the cargo guy.

The style this spring is looking like the '50s. The look is wide skirts, short cardigans, slim-fitting shift dresses and cap-sleeve blouses.

Another hot trend this spring is cargo details. The look is safari and military trends of past seasons combined with pouch pockets and zippers galore on jackets, vests, pants and skirts.

For those country club chics the look is Polo shirts in cotton or cashmere, Bermuda shorts, tennis skirts and golf jackets.

The cropped pants look is slim pants two inches above the ankle, mid-calf or just below the knee. And for those who dare to wear minis, thigh high is the way to go with super-short skirts, baby-doll dresses and ultra-short shifts.

The sports-inspired look is Neoprene (a.k.a. wetsuit material) minis and vests, rugby-striped knits and dresses and warm-up-suit shapes.
