Dusky Shark

(Carcharhinus obscurus)

The dusky shark is one of the sharks with the distinct ridge on the back. It is common on the Atlantic Coast from George's Bank south, and in the Gulf it is quite common throughout. This is a wide-ranging species, likely to be found near shore or out to the edge of the Continental Shelf.

Dusky sharks are large, often growing to more than 3m in length.

All types of prey have been found in their stomach, from flounders to flatfish, starfish and squid, and even species that stay close to reefs.
