Water Buck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus)

A large shaggy antelope, with a long body and rather short sturdy legs, the waterbuck stands about 1.27m at the shoulder and weighs up to 261kg.

Native to southern and eastern Africa, waterbucks live in grasslands with tree and shrub thickets in areas where there is always water. They are both browsers and grazers.

When threatened by a predator, waterbuck will not hesitate to take refuge in deep water, very often infested with crocodiles to which they fall prey. They are also preyed upon by lions, leopards, cheetahs and wild dogs.

Waterbucks live about 14 years.
