Seek and Find

Activity 1

Description
Overview:
The student will understand the relationship between shape and resistance in water and air.  They will compare and contrast the structure and function of fish head design.

Instructional Cycle
1. Ask student to define hydrodynamics.
2. Discuss the student definitions.
3. Explain the root words "Hydro = water" & "Dynamics = movement" (relate the words to common words, example hydrophobic, hydroplane, hydrocephalic, dynamic equilibrium,
dynamite)
4. Discuss variables (factors that would effect dynamics, mainly resistance).
5. Activity #1
6. Have students write up why they choose a specific shape.
7. Discuss students answers and activity #1
8. Have students list real world examples.
9. Activity #2
10. Discuss activity #2
11. Finish with Seek and Find.
