TENTATIVE COURSE CHRONOLOGY FOR
MODERN COMPETITION FENCING

WEEK 1
Proper Fencing Form and Walking with association to the Lunge, Ballestra etc.
Drills and bouts.

WEEK 2
The Foil Guards one through eight the current usage (French - Italian) and archaic forms: 1 - Prime, 2 - Seconde, 3 - Tierce, 4 - Quarte, 5 - Quinte , 6 - Sixte, 7 - Septime, and 8 - Octave. Grip and Proper Finger Movements on the sword handle.
Drills and bouts.

WEEK 3
The Four Body Quadrants and resulting attacks and parries taken from the eight guard positions.
Drills and bouts.

WEEK 4
Footwork and Fencing Distance or Measure. Passata Soto, Displacement, and In Quartata.
Drills and bouts.

WEEK 5
Intention Attacks used to draw responses from the opponent which allows for an intended action. Also Feint Attacks.
Drills and bouts.

WEEK 6
Proper Fencing Time ATemps d=escrime.@ The time required to complete a single fencing action. The application of the Stop Hit, Time Hit, or Time Thrust with respect to tempo.

WEEK 7
Attack au Fer and the Prise de Fer. The deflection of the opponents blade using the Beat, Bind, Coule, Croise, Envelopment, and Opposition. Also the Froissement or the taking of the opponents blade by a strong grazing action.

WEEK 8
Insistence, the pressing of an attack through a Parry. The modern application of the concept of Attack, Parry, and Riposte. The Trompement or deception of the Parry.

WEEK 9
Simple and Compound Actions in fencing time as related to the concept of right of way. Parry - Counter Parry and Riposte and Counter Riposte.

WEEK 10
The proper application of the Thrown Point or Flick Attack: outside line, inside line, and back.
Drills and bouts.

WEEK 11
Proper Thrown Point defenses utilizing fencing distance and parries.
Drills and bouts.

WEEK 12
Engage, Disengage, Counter Disengage, and Change of Engagement.
Drills and bouts.

WEEK 13
The Flying Parry or Riposte.
Drills and bouts.

WEEK 14
Indirect Attacks and Ripostes. And the concept of Interception.
Drills and bouts.

WEEK 15
Preparation for Attacks and Attacks into Preparations.
Drills and bouts.

WEEK 16
Redoublement, Reprise, and Remise.
Drills and bouts.
