Amarillo
College English-as-a-Second-LanguageCourse Level and Placement
Students
meet with one of the ESL advisors to speak
and write as much as they can in English. Students are not required
to write any English before entering the program. Once the
initial evaluation is complete, students are usually placed in one of these
four course levels based on their level of proficiency:
| Level I | Cannot participate in simple conversations in English. |
| Level II | Can participate in simple English conversations with a limited vocabulary. |
| Level III | Can participate in more detailed English conversations with a larger vocabulary. |
| Level IV | Can comfortably participate in English conversations. |
