COURSE SYLLABUS ESL 0335
COURSE NAME/NUMBER/TITLE: ESL
0335, Composition III
HOURS: Five (5)
hours of class and one (1) hour of lab per week. Additional time outside of class will be necessary to complete
assignments.
SEMESTER CREDIT HOURS: Three
(3) semester hours, institutional credit.
DISABILITY STATEMENT:

REQUIRED EXAMINATIONS: Written
and oral examinations evaluating writing skills and the application of grammar
rules. A final exam is also required.
PREREQUISITE: Completion of ESL 0325, Composition
II, with a grade of C or better or approval of ESL faculty.
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE: Write
short, expository compositions of one to five paragraphs. Emphasis will be placed on clarity,
organization, supporting details, unity, and transition.

PURPOSE AND GOALS OF COURSE:
To
enable students to write clear, well organized paragraphs. To improve grammar and spelling skills.
PERFORMANCE /LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. Write
a controlled paragraph following a model paragraph.
2. Recognize
the topic sentence of a paragraph.
3. Learn
to brainstorm.
4. Learn
to compose a topic sentence.
5. Learn
to write detailed sentences to support a topic sentence.
6. Learn
to write a concluding sentence.
7. Learn
to proofread and make corrections.
8. Improve
grammar and spelling skills.
ATTENDANCE: Attendance
is essential to success in the class; therefore, limit absences to no more than
5 per semester. Additional absences can
affect your final grade in the class. If
you stop attending class and do not formally withdraw, you will receive an F.
MAKE-UP POLICY: Make-up tests will not be
given. If you miss one test, the grades
you have will be averaged with no penalty.
If you miss more than one test, you will receive a 0 for the test
missed.

GRADING POLICY: The
grading system is:
A = 90-100 Excellent
B = 80-89 Good

If a student or a class does not
finish the material needed to complete this level, they will be changed to an
audit status. They will receive a grade
of AAU.@ The student
will need to enroll in the same level the next semester. This action could cause problems with
financial aid.
