COURSE SYLLABUS ESL 0324
COURSE NAME/NUMBER/TITLE: ESL
0324, Reading II
HOURS: Five (5) hours of class and one (1)
hour of lab per week. Additional time outside of class will be necessary to complete
assignments.
SEMESTER CREDIT HOURS: Three (3)
semester hours, institutional credit.
DISABILITY STATEMENT:

soon as possible.
REQUIRED EXAMINATIONS: Written and oral examinations in
class evaluating vocabulary and comprehension skills. A final exam is also required.
PREREQUISITE: Completion
of ESL 0314, Reading I, with a grade of C or better or approval of ESL faculty.
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE: Emphasis
on vocabulary building, word attack skills, and reading comprehension.

PURPOSE AND GOALS OF COURSE:
To assist students in word attack
skills by improving phonetic skills and sight word recognition. To improve vocabulary and comprehension
skills.
PERFORMANCE/LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. Review
the vowel sounds.
2. Learn
letter clusters and their sounds.
3. Learn
silent letter words.
4. Improve
vocabulary by using context clues.
5. Read
and discuss stories.
6. Read
longer stories and answer comprehension questions.
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance is essential to success in
the class; therefore, limit absences to no more than 5 a semester. Additional
absences can affect your final grade in the class. If you stop attending class and do not
formally withdraw, you will receive an F.

MAKE-UP POLICY:
Make-up tests will not be
given. If you miss one test, the grades
you have will be averaged with no penalty.
If you miss more than one test, you will receive a 0 for the test
missed.
GRADING POLICY: The
grading system is:
A = 90-100 Excellent
B = 80-89 Good
C = 70-79 Fair
D = 60-69 Failing
If a student or a class does not
finish the material needed to complete this level, they will be changed to an
audit status. They will receive a grade
of AAU@. The student
will need to enroll in the same level and pay for the classes again the next
semester. This action could cause
problems with financial aid.
