COURSE NAME/NUMBER/TITLE: ESL 0312, Grammatical Structure I
HOURS: Five (5)
hours of class and
one (1) hour of lab per week. Additional time outside of class will be
necessary to complete assignments.
SEMESTER CREDIT HOURS: Three (3) semester hours, institutional
credit.
DISABILITY STATEMENT:

REQUIRED EXAMINATIONS: Written and oral examinations evaluating
knowledge of basic grammatical skills.
A final exam is also required.
PREREQUISITE: Must know the English alphabet and be literate in first language.
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE: Grammatical Structure I emphasizes simple verb
tenses, parts of speech, word order, capitalization, and punctuation.

PURPOSE AND GOAL OF
COURSE:
To
equip students to write and communicate orally using correct grammar.
PERFORMANCE/LEARNING
OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify
nouns and pronouns.
2. Identify
verbs and learn to use present and past verb tenses.
3. Identify
adjectives.
4. Identify
adverbs.
5. Learn
capitalization rules.
6. Learn
statement and question punctuation.
7. Learn
spelling rules for plurals.
8. Write
a complete sentence with correct punctuation.
ATTENDANCE: Attendance is essential to success in the class; therefore,
limit absences to no more than 5 per semester.
Additional absences can affect your final grade in the
class. If you stop attending class
and do not formally withdraw, you will receive an F.

MAKE-UP POLICY: Make up tests will not be
given. If you miss one test, the grades
you have will be averaged with no penalty.
If you miss more than one test, you will receive a 0 for the test
missed.
GRADING POLICY: The
grading system is:
A = 90-100 Excellent
B = 80-89 Good
C = 70-79 Fair
F = Below 70 Failing,
must repeat
If a student or a class does
not finish the material needed to complete this level, they will be changed to
an audit status. They will receive a
grade of AAU@. The student will need to enroll in the same
level and pay for the classes again the next semester. This action could cause problems with
financial aid.
